East Rosebud to Rainbow Lake. Backpacking 8.2014

We took a family trip up to Montana this August and spent 3 days in the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness. It had been super cloudy and rainy and we almost cancelled the trip. It was incredibly rainy and foggy the first day and we were a bit miserable but it was worth it. The rain cleared up when we got to our first campground and it was a gorgeous trip for the next 2 days.

Elk Lake, from our campsite.

 Rainbow Lake, our final destination.

Back at Elk Lake we came across a moose just by our campsite.

I took exactly one photo on the way out, day 3, and it was not even a little worth posting... I was on a mission to take a shower and the light was pretty rough. All in all it was an amazing hike and the quote of the trip goes to my dad when we got back to the car: "I want you to look back on this day and remember it when you are 62." I hope to still be backpacking and skiing and just generally being as active as he is when I am 62!
